As far as I know the XBR 500 does have a chain drive actually, not a shaft.
I was admiring the XBR before I started riding. It reminds me of the big racing singles like the Norton Manx. Iīd also like to have a Yamaha SRX-6, but these are hard to find here too, and finding spare parts for them is complicated too.
The XBR does look sporty, but there are quite a few around here found with luggage racks and it does seem to be a good bike for long trips.
After all, I do have other problems rather than buying a second bike at the moment. Iīm looking for new rooms for a new office, which will cost me quite a few bucks, so if I donīt stumble over a_real_occasion, one more motorcycle is out of discussion for the moment. But who knows...
If I had the money, I would collect singles - they`re fun to ride. As much engine as you need: more than one cylinder is good for a car, but not for a bike.
My son loves the GSX 500, itīs a nice bike and unbeatable for itīs price / performance relation (only DEM 7.500!), I`ve sat on a SV 650 - nice bike too but no single. I`ve been riding a Suzuki Freewind, which was real fun and seems to be a very good bike for travelling; it needs higher revs however than the Savageīs engine.
So many bikes, so little money...
I have three kids and a motorcycle. If I should live again, I shall try one child and three bikes.
